As an expert in urban centers and tourism, I have had the pleasure of visiting and studying many cities around the world. However, one city that has always stood out to me is Scottsdale, Arizona. Located in Maricopa County, this city is known for its vibrant culture, diverse art scene, and luxurious shopping experiences. One of the main attractions in Scottsdale is Old Town, which is considered the best urban center in Arizona. This bustling area is home to over 90 restaurants, 320 retail stores, and more than 80 art galleries.
As an editor, I have reviewed countless articles about Scottsdale and can confidently say that this city truly has something for everyone. Scottsdale's business district is a unique blend of western charm and modern sophistication. Here, you can find a variety of arts and crafts as well as fashion from both local designers and international brands. The three main art districts in downtown Scottsdale are the Scottsdale Main Street Arts District, Marshall Way Art District, and Old Town district. Each district offers its own unique style and showcases a diverse collection of art. To make exploring downtown Scottsdale even more convenient, there are two trolley services available.
The Downtown Trolley runs through the heart of downtown while the Neighborhood Trolley connects downtown to various neighborhoods across South Scottsdale. Additionally, the city of Tempe offers a free public circulator called the Tempe Orbit which connects to the Neighborhood Trolley at Roosevelt and Scottsdale Road. Scottsdale is also home to a prestigious private school called BASIS Scottsdale. This school has two campuses, one in Scottsdale Air Park and one in North Scottsdale. The addition of the second campus has allowed BASIS to serve not only the local community but also the business community in the area. For those who love to shop, Scottsdale Fashion Square is a must-visit destination.
With over 2 million square feet of luxury retail space, this mall truly embodies the Old Town Scottsdale lifestyle. Other notable shopping centers in the area include Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Quarter in North Scottsdale, and Scottsdale Fashion Square in downtown Scottsdale. While Scottsdale is known for its modern amenities, it also has a rich history. During World War II, the city housed a German prisoner of war camp at the intersection of Scottsdale and Thomas highways, which is now part of Papago Park. This historical site serves as a reminder of the city's past and its growth over the years. One of the most popular events in Scottsdale is the annual Scottsdale Jaycees Sun Parade.
This month-long event has been a tradition since 1954 and brings together locals and tourists alike to celebrate the vibrant culture and community of Scottsdale.
